2007 Honour Roll

Sports Performer of the Year - Cadel Evans

Cadel EvansAfter hitting the cobblestones of the Champs-Elysees Cadel Evans openly wondered when the magnitude of his epic cycling achievement would hit him.

"Now it's all over and we've ridden around the Champs-Elysees and stayed upright, it's starting to sink in," Evans said in July. "It will probably take a week or a month or so, I don't know. It's that hard a race, you don't have time, to be honest. It hasn't hit me yet."

His Tour de France feat immediately sunk in with the Australian community with many dubbing it the greatest sporting feat of the year. By finishing runner-up in the general classification of the 2007 Tour de France to Alberto Contador, Evans cemented his place as one of the best cyclists in the world.

Team performance of the Year - Australian Cricket team

Cricket Team Australia claimed an unprecedented fourth World Cup win in the West Indies with a 53-run victory over Sri Lanka in the final on April 28. It was also their third consecutive World Cup win and the team has now won 29 consecutive World Cup matches. This followed a 5-0 whitewash of the 2006-07 Ashes series, the first time either side had achieved the feat since Australia did in the 1920-21 series. The team has led the ICC Test Championship table for the majority of the time since it was created in January 2001 and has led the ICC One-Day table since its inception.

Israel FolauDebut seasons do not come more impressive than Israel Folau's year with the Melbourne Storm. Even his coach, Craig Bellamy, is on record as saying he has none better in rugby league. And who can blame him? The teenager started 2007 as a 17-year-old lump of lad who was listed in official programs as `Israel Falou' until Storm issued a correction, and finished it being hailed the next Mal Meninga.
