Australia’s revered wheelchair racer does not know how or when to stop. Having finished a tumultuous Beijing Paralympics with victory in the marathon, Fearnley could have been excused for having something of a break this year but he’s continued winning marathons all over the world. His standing as the leading racer in the T54 class is undoubted. He won his third-straight Chicago marathon early this month to stretch his unbeaten run to eight – a streak going all the way back to his unforgettable triumph in Beijing, where he won a nailbiting finish on the final day of competition. He now plans to venture away from racing for an even bigger challenge – crawling the Kokoda track to help raise awareness for men’s health. Fearnley, missing the lower part of his spine, wants to become the first wheelchair athlete to complete the 96 kilometre journey. Will Swanton
