Geelong

Geelong

Geelong expected to win their second flag in two years when they were rolled by Hawthorn in the 2008 grand final. And it hurt. They came out of the blocks with a vengeance this year and showed from their first game that they meant business with 13 straight wins before going down in a thriller against StKilda in round 14. But the match resulted in much more than their first loss with several players sidelined with injuries. But they survived close contests against Hawthorn and Adelaide to stay in flag contention. Sydney gave them a nudge in round 20 but the Cats got over the line by five points. In their next game, the Bulldogs ran away to a 14-point victory but two weeks later in the qualifying final, Geelong had their revenge. The Cats then demolished Collingwood on their way to the grand final where they stole from StKilda the flag stolen from them a year earlier. Andrea Petrie
