Ben Kantarovski

Ben Kantarovski

Breaking records is nothing new for Newcastle Jets prodigy Ben Kantarovski. At 17, the Newcastle-born defender/midfielder is already a relative A-League veteran, having signed a professional deal with his hometown club when he was 15 – the youngest player to have been offered a professional career in the fledgling league’s short history. Kantarovski made his debut in the first round of the 2008-09 season as a 16-year-old, and has rarely looked back. He made 17 appearances for the club that term and was named the Jets’ player of the season. Kantarovski has been a mainstay of Australia’s junior teams, having played 12 times for the Under-17s and won a starting place in the Young Socceroos line-up at the Under-20 World Cup. Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek has already recognised his potential, calling Kantarovski up for a training camp with the senior squad. Michael Lynch
